Come On Home

Oh the morning sun it shines

On the harbours and the bays

And the fishing boats they rise against the waves

Heading out once more the daily bread to make

As I stared out of the window

Of our old two storey home

Like I done so many times before I roam

Leaving behind every friendship that I own

Now the roads a Little Rocky

But I’ll make it somewhere new

And new friendships I will give to oh so few

Who’ll remind me of old Newfoundland and you

So come on home

Come on home to Newfoundland

Where the waters of the ocean shape our land

Come on home to Newfoundland

Greet the welcome if you can

We can walk the rocky shoreline hand in hand

There’s old men who’ll sit and tell you

Of hard times and days gone by

And they’ll caller up their stories

But now and then a lie

They’re the masters of the heart felt words of joy

And all those friendly smiling faces

You can find in Newfoundland

With the wink and nod they’ll always shake your hand

And through hard times they have always took their stand

Oh I miss the island dearly

All her dirt roads and her shores

And the weather beaten stages where the fish were stored

And each small town had their own own general store

So come on home

Come on home to Newfoundland

Where the waters of the ocean shape our land

Come on home to Newfoundland

Greet the welcome if you can

We can walk the rocky shoreline hand in hand

In the year of 97 it’s our anniversary

It’s 500 years since Cabot sailed the sea

Began a history that’s home to you and me

Well some day I’m goin’ back there

And then no more will I roam

For no other place I’ve been can I call home

I long for family and friends I left behind

So come on home

Come on home to Newfoundland

Where the waters of the ocean shape our land

Come on home to Newfoundland

Greet the welcome if you can

We can walk the rocky shoreline hand in hand

Come on home to Newfoundland

Greet the welcome if you can

We can walk the rocky shoreline hand in hand
