Friendly Fire

Light the fire,
Send the message;
Watch the faces turn away.
What once was ours,
Slipped through our fingers;
Like the dreams of yesterday.

In our hearts and minds, a thousand
Questions creep,
Through the hall-ways of their asking.
Then we see a light,
It's distant but it's burning bright.
We're in the shadow that it's casting.

Friendly fire., Friendly fire.
The hopes and dreams,
we tried to cling to,
Have been scattered on the sand;
Beyond the waves,
across the ocean,
On a distant foreign strand.

All the history, That is plain to see,
Only strengthens our desire.
The can of gasoline,
The truth that sets us free,
We watch the flames burning higher.

Friendly fire., Friendly fire.
The hopes and dreams,
we tried to cling to,
Have been scattered on the sand;
Beyond the waves,
across the ocean,
On a distant foreign strand.

Beware the Ides,
The fools are waiting,
For what they call their judgement day.
And who are we,
A scattered nation,
The infidels who went astray?
How long will we be chased away?
What will be our returning?
How can we break the chains,
That flow so deep within our veins?
How can we ever quench this yearning?

Friendly fire., Friendly fire.
The hopes and dreams,
we tried to cling to,
Have been scattered on the sand;
Beyond the waves,
across the ocean,
On a distant foreign strand.
