One Room School

On a little hill in a little cove
Stands an old wooden building with a pot-bellied stove;
A hard working teacher and an old hand bell
Now I know you all remember it well!

With readin' and writin' and 'rithmetic
And cod-liver oil we just had to take;
And the cocoa malt we'll never forget
From our beautiful one room school!

With a pot-bellied stove and the floor boards creaked
And when it rained the roof nearly leaked
We were happy as larks and we didn't make a peep
In our beautiful one room school
In our beautiful one room school!

To go to the bathroom you had to insist
Out through the cloakroom oh what a mess!
If the rain was pouring what could you do?
Put on your boots and your raincoat too!

But if it wasn't rain it was probably snow
So out to the outhouse you must go!
To a tiny little seat with a tiny little hole
Near our beautiful one room school!

With a pot-bellied stove and the floor boards creaked
And when it rained the roof nearly leaked
We were happy as larks and we didn't make a peep
In our beautiful one room school
In our beautiful one room school!

Probably the biggest event of all
Was the Christmas concert in the Orange Hall;
And people would come from far and near
To hear all the little voices there!

And in Jr. Red Cross we'd also sing
Or act out a poem or some silly thing;
And when we sang The Ode our voices would ring:
When sun rays crown thy pine-clad hills
We were happy as larks and we didn't make a peep
In our beautiful one room school

With a pot-bellied stove and the floor boards creaked
And when it rained the roof nearly leaked
We were happy as larks and we didn't make a peep
In our beautiful one room school
In our beautiful one room school!

With a pot-bellied stove and the floor boards creaked
And when it rained the roof nearly leaked
We were happy as larks and we didn't make a peep
In our beautiful one room school
In our beautiful one room school
In our beautiful one room school....
